This resolution on the Role and Tasks of the Fourth International was adopted at the Sixteenth World Congress by 91% of the delegate votes, 8% against and 1% abstaining. An accompanying motion on organising seminars to continue the discussion was adopted by 99% of the votes, 1% abstaining.

The adoption of this resolution followed discussion of a lengthy report on climate change approved in February 2009 by the International Committee, and the adoption at the previous World Congress in 2003 of a resolution on Ecology and socalism.
